Our first in-person event of the year took place last week in Newcastle, having managed to come together for the Gala in October we were disappointed to have to make January’s Vision event a virtual affair.
We started on Tuesday 26th with a pre-event Benchmarking session, an innovative new program from N-Able and MSP Advisor which was launched at our January event. This program allows MSPs to drive best in-class operations by reviewing results and best practices in the global MSP community. The first NG Cohort got together in Newcastle for a session discussing different ways to create operational efficiency within their businesses and the importance of growth mindsets.
Thank you to Robert Wilburn and Dave Wilkeson for joiningus, we’re looking forward to the next session and seeing our members grow.
The main day on Wednesday 27th was kicked off by Chairman Perry Ashby welcoming members to the room and giving an update on NG Business, followed by Tracy Pound, Chair of the Board of Directors of CompTIA. Tracy talked us through the ‘State of the Union’, CompTIA’s latest IT Industry Outlook, touching on some of the trends for 2022 around Cybersecurity, the future of where we work, the role of consulting, and key focus areas for the Channel. Thank you for joining us Tracy and providing some valuable insight into the Channel and current trends!
We broke off into smaller groups to focus on members business needs; with our Exec member Richard Alford leading a session on ‘The Future of Retail’, NG member Martin Byrne of Sweethaven covering the Education market, and NG members Chris Blunt and Mostyn Thomas were joined by Chris Pinder of IASME to discus the updates around the NCSC Cyber Advisor Scheme.
A quick coffee break followed, provided by our favourite barista, to refuel before going into our vendor-led focus sessions.
Our first set of focus sessions were hosted by Datto and Threatlocker, covering how to leverage RMM & PSA, and how to secure applications using a zero trust model. Our retail members were with NG member Craig Hume of Utopia Computers for ‘repair shop foundations’, learning how to get the foundations right and having the opportunity to explore Utopia’s new repair CRM.
A quick swap over and members were joined by ConnectWise covering the 2022 MSP Threat Report, Ingram Micro Cloud exploring how to successfully increase margins and changes to the Microsoft Partner Network Program, and Pax8 sharing how to simplify buying, selling, and managing cloud security solutions.
The exhibition opened for almost three hours of business and networking opportunities, we were delighted to be joined by lots of longstanding partners and some fresh faces. After a long day of connecting we headed out to a local restaurant for our annual Group night out for a curry and a few beers.
