Long-time Network Group Members Rob Boyns and Paul Moore are once again setting off on a mammoth trek to raise funds in support of the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation which is committed to funding research to find effective treatments to Motor Neuron Disease (MND).
The Dodd1e’5 Gr4nd S7am Team has been brought together using experienced Doddie Cup riders along with new riders. Roger Baird (ex Scotland Rugby and British Lions) along with co-captains Ian Barr (ex SRU President) and Rob Boyns (D555 elite squad & Doddie Aid Wales team captain) head up the team. The 24 strong team is mainly from Scotland, Wales and England, and will feature many guest riders along the route.
They will set off from Murrayfield in Edinburgh on 28thFebruary, carrying the Match Ball for the Cuttita Cup (Scotland vs. Italy),covering 3000km visiting Belfast, Dublin, Holyhead, Cardiff, Twickenham, Paris, and Monaco before arriving in Rome on 7th March.
This fundraising challenge is the biggest set by former Scotland captain, and Lion, Rob Wainwright in support of the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation. It will push the riders and their support team to their limits, and beyond.
These will be insignificant compared to the challenges faced every day by those impacted by MND. The Team recognises there will betimes their physical and mental health will be tested over the nine days, but know this is nothing like the struggles those with MND live with… and will continue to do so until we find a cure.
Team Engagement
The Team have set up a programme of engagement with Clubs, Schools, Business Sponsors, and partners throughout the route. In particular, the Team will look to interact with local communities impacted by MND. Team Ambassador Roger Baird, co-captains Ian Barr and Rob Boyns are excited by these opportunities and are keen to ensure that supporters of the Team Challenge will be involved throughout.
Get Involved
An additional Home Cycle Challenge will run during the 9days, where the Clubs, Schools, Businesses and Organisations can sign up to the Team Challenge: Race 2 Rome. Participating teams can time themselves to ride the 3,000km and “arrive” in Rome before The Dodd1e’5 Gr4nd S7am Team. This is a great way for communities across Europe to come together have some fun and help raise awareness of MND as well as raising much needed funds for the fight against this illness. More info on this can be found on the team website, but it provides a great opportunity for businesses to engage their employees and local community in this challenge.
Finally…
Fundraising enables The Foundation to continue making research grants and supporting all those impacted directly by MND. Your support will enable the team to know that their efforts are making a difference, taking pride in contributing to the eradication of MND. You can donate to them here.
