We were up North last week for Network Group’s first event in Scotland!
Network Group Members and Partners headed over the border for the annual Momentum event at voco Grand Central Glasgow. There was an early start for our Benchmarking cohort, working with Dave Wilkeson of MSP Advisor and Matt Takhar of N-Able working through the benefits of measuring operational and financial metrics.
We kicked off the afternoon with a welcome from Chairman Perry Ashby, who introduced us to our newest Member, Start Tech, followed by business updates.
Our Inspire Partners joined us for the rest of the afternoon, with Pia representatives Paul Fuge, Brook Lee, and Tim Coach talking Members through the next big shift for MSPs – using intelligent automation to grow their business and increasing efficiency and profitability. Pax8 delegates Laura Fleming, Nathan Stokes, Ben Bryant, and Evan Phillips took Members through an interactive session on how they can maximise their Microsoft Partnerships and planning for the future.
Moving onto the second set of workshops, CyberQP (formerly QuickPass Cybersecurity) delegates Chris Brennan and Taylor Weiss shared what’s new with CyberQP, as well as their Privileged Access Management suite. ThreatLocker’s Rob Allen and Iain Jenkins immersed Members in the world of zero-trust with a live demo of their defence in action.
Good times as par as the eye can see
As par usual, we headed out for an evening of networking and dinner for our annual ‘summer fun’ part of the event to Topgolf in Glasgow. Thanks to partners ConnectWise, Egnyte, Inbay, The MSP Finance Team, Zomentum, Pax8, Pia, CyberQP, Uptime Solutions, Sophos, OpenText Cybersecurity, Ingram Micro, Terra Computer, ThreatLocker, and N-able for joining us on the evening, and to ThreatLocker for co-sponsoring the evening’s entertainment with us.
Thankfully we weren’t swingin’ in the rain, as we battled it out to see who’d come out on top, and who took home the wooden spoon. Congratulations to Member Joe Molloy of Cusken Sync IT for taking home the trophy on the night as Top Golfer!
Strike while the iron’s hot
We kicked off Day 2 with further business updates from the Chairman, while some of our newer Members joined a New Member Orientation session with Managing Director David Tulip, and Account Manager Lucy Perrin, to learn more about the benefits of the Group and how to make the most of what’s available to them.
Up next, our Accelerate Partners ConnectWise, Egnyte, Inbay, N-Able, OpenText Cybersecurity, Sophos, Terra Computer, and Uptime Solutions moderated roundtable discussions on topics Account Management, AI, Sales & Marketing, and Staff Recruitment & Retention Challenges. These small groups took the chance to deep-dive into their topics before partner leads took the stage for an overview of what was discussed, outcomes, and how to move forward in those areas.
Taking to the stage next was our Keynote Speaker, Charlie McMurdie. Charlie served for 32 years in the Metropolitan Police where she established and led a world class national cybercrime capability and enforcement body for the United Kingdom. She is an acknowledged cybercrime and security expert and internationally acclaimed authority and advisor on issues within government and industry in relation to the Internet, computing fraud and security sectors.
Charlie gave an over view of cyber-crime, real world operational cases investigated and prosecuted, including organised crime groups attacking financial institutions, dark markets that facilitate cyber trade, internet frauds, phishing, and hacktivist attacks.
Moving into our three breakout sessions, Meg Fenney, of HR Download, led a session with NG Member Andrew Rosamond of Cara Tech, sharing how they worked together to review Cara’s organisational structure and instilled confidence in their team. Daniel Welling and Adam Morris, The MSP Finance Team, led a session on how to take control of your MSP’s financial future with a practical workshop on how to improve budgeting and forecasting. Robert Fiske of Prism Corporate Broking shared a current overview of the M&A market in the Software and IT Services Sector, going through ‘the dark art of valuation’, phases of the sale process, and how to prepare.
We finished the day with a Member-led roundtable session, with small groups getting together to share what’s keeping them up at night, pain points in their business, and working together to solve problems. There was lots of big picture thinking and practical tips shared between Members, wrapping up the event and heading home with fresh ideas to implement in their businesses.
Thank you to all our Members, Partners, and guests for joining us at #NGMomentum, we’re looking forward to seeing you in October for the Roadshow!
